The inaugural Kizuna Matsuri evolved from the Tohoku Rokonsai festival - after the Great east Japan earthquake and tsunami. Everyone wanted to go to all the Rokonsai (largest 6 Matsuri) in the Tohoku area - but because most of the festivals land on the same day, it's a schedule that's impossible to keep. Now, it brings together 6 of the most prominent areas of the Tohoku region in a celebration of unity.
