Spoon Sports - A race-day with Ogikubo's finest.

Capturing a day with the famous Ogikubo racing outfit, Spoon Sports was a great experience, the brief from Type One boss Daisuke Jomoto was to highlight the reality of the life of his team during an event. It's gritty, unapologetic and fierce - plus, conditions can change in seconds.

Suzuka, a track famous for it's Formula 1 heritage was no exception.

Conditions to begin with were ideal, the track was warm and the air was thick - the perfect combination for race-car tyres and engines. As the day progressed however, conditions became diabolical - incessant rain, constant spray from tyre pickup and very low light.

Spoon's S2000 wasn't a delicate device prone to issues either, after 2 years of development it had become battle-hardened and bullet proof - the regulations of the Super Taikyu competition are upheld with strict oversight.

Number 1 driver Taketoshi Matsui said to me before the race began 'This type of track suits me best, long laps which need my full attention.' His lap times from the get-go were evidence of that focus, fast.

It set Spoon Sports up for a serious endurance battle in treacherous conditions over a very long day with their rivals. Despite many set-backs and incidents - they managed to climb to P2! A magnificent display in both race-craft and raw speed.
